Long live the prince of soul Trey Songz!!! right into it, what was a day back in Petersburg, Virginia like for you as a young buck? 5 of my homeboys were part of the in crowd , so we were going to the hottest spots every week, and when I found out I was going to make it singing I didn't really take school that serious, I just got grades to get by but I graduated. what age did you really discover the singing bug? graduated. who actually took you under their wing to get you professionally? 14 or 15. The first time I met him I had to sing a song for him. I sang "Where I wanna be" by Donel Jones. He was im- pressed but what really threw him for the loop was when I sang a song I wrote and that was it. He spoke to my mom after that and from there he helped me master my craft to get me where I'm at today. your transition from Virginia to New Jersey? some part of New Jersey but that wasn't really a concern of mine. For me it was about getting this music done, whatever I had to do staying focused; I didn't even go out. getting down to the wire? Right before you were about to get that deal? demo unless someone asked for it. A lot of labels started inquiring because I hooked up with my manager who was Troy's man- ager at the time and they said give them about 10 songs and landed a deal shortly after at Atlantic records. you got your name? songs every summer when I came up to Jersey and I had about 6 or 7 songs. Someone sent my demo CD's to me and it read, `Trey Songs' on them. It's funny cause at the time I didn't have a name. It was just Trey. I thought to myself, `hmmmmm Trey Songs, I am very involved with the song making process from the second it's created to the video.' So I just thought it would be dope if my name was Trey Songs, with a `z' at the end of course. signed your deal with Atlantic, did you think about how you would fit in with the cats that were out there already? have a deal! (Laughs) God gave us Atlantic with Ahmet Ertegun. One of the big bidders was DreamWorks. Within two weeks of me signing to Atlantic, DreamWorks folded. That was a big sign that I was where I was supposed to be. album? cause you have to please a lot of people. I did about 16 songs but it was a learning process. It still came out came out the way I wanted it in a way. It got a portion of me out to the world. album Trey Day, let's close it out telling the people about your new project?
