Bachelor of Science in
Environmental Science
A joint venture between SPEA and IU's College of Arts and Sciences,
the BSES provides strong science education with an emphasis on natural
and human-dominated systems. This degree prepares you for a career in
environmental science or for graduate study in environmental science or one of
the traditional sciences such as chemistry, geology, or biology.
Theelements
· A core curriculum provides an interdisciplinary understanding of the latest
scientific knowledge.
· Choose a concentration area in general atmospheric science, ecosystem
science, hydrology and water resources, mathematical modeling,
environmental geology, or pollution control technologies and remediation.
TheGreatOutdoorsclassroom
You don't need to wait until after graduation to start saving the planet. This
prestigious degree program features experiences in the field . . . and on the
mountain tops.
·
Field Experience in Environmental Science. The Tobacco Root
Mountains of southwest Montana provide the breathtaking backdrop for a
five-week field course taught at the Judson Mead Geologic Field Station of
Indiana University. Offered during the summer after your sophomore year,
the course offers instruction on location. Destinations range from pristine
alpine forests to Environmental Protection Agency Superfund projects.
·
Senior Research Project. Guided by a faculty advisor, all BSES
students complete a senior research project closely related to their area
of concentration. Students complete a written report and give an oral
presentation that is open to the public. Past projects include studying
salamander populations and Ohio River Valley precipitation trends.
Examine the science of your surroundings
