Maximize
your potential!
SPEA lets your talent take you places
DirectAdmission
If you qualify, you can get a head start on your future through direct admission
to SPEA. Students who rank in the top 15 percent of their high school class,
who score a minimum of 1250 on the SAT or 28 on the ACT, and who indicate
a SPEA major on their IU application may be invited for direct admission.
Advantages include not having to apply to SPEA in the sophomore year
(a competitive process); working directly with SPEA advisors, faculty, and
upperclassmen beginning in your freshman year; and getting an early start on
planning your academic and professional career.
SPEAHonorsProgram
Each year the SPEA Honors Program seeks a select group of students to offer
them the opportunity to complete advanced courses, to work one-on-one
with faculty members on honors-level projects, to be automatically admitted
to several prestigious SPEA programs (such as the Washington Leadership
Program and the Scholars in Global Citizenship Program), and to receive their
degree with honors. Students in this program are automatically admitted to
the Accelerated Masters Program. For more information, see

WashingtonLeadershipProgram
The Washington Leadership Program invites you to make the U.S. capital
your campus for a semester. You'll apply classroom theory and develop new
professional skills. Fully participate in life on Capitol Hill and other federal
offices, attend meetings and special events, perform research, write reports,
prepare briefings, and get involved in lots more. You'll have a chance to make
great contacts for your future career.
Through the program, about 30 IU juniors and seniors earn a full semester of
credit while they intern with a major organization related to their particular
academic interests. Students intern four full days each week. They also take two
courses taught by SPEA faculty members, with guest lectures by Washington
policymakers and officials.
Admission to the program is competitive. For more information, see
