intrepid travelers have been living in this lovely 1982 Air Cooled Vanagon Camper. A Vanagon Camper is not that unusual for a "Summer of Love" tour, but the Millers have been living in their camper for nearly 10 YEARS! They stopped by our store to buy a few goodies one summer afternoon, and of course, immediately caught our attention. Between the solar collectors and the wide array of travel stickers, it REALLY stood out! We don't see "Belize" stickers every day. As we talked further we learned the Millers were traveling "Around the World!" They have already been to nine countries, across the Gulf of Mexico, and as far south as Panama would take them! We quizzed Jim about the solar panels, and he explained that they produce 80 watts each and provide a great source of electricity when camping. The electricity generated by the sun is stored in two massive 6 volt golf cart batteries! Very ingenious! They run small fans and lights, with no fuel consumption or generator noise! Add a couple of human pow- ered bicycles and you have an affordable, environmentally friendly way to travel! We hope you enjoyed meeting the Millers, we sure did! |
